My Trip to the East Coast

Founders in Boston

This past weekend I took a plane to New York so that I could meet with my sorority sisters that lived in New York. Our main goal was to travel together to Boston, Mass. for our national convention. Little did I know the adventure I would have.

Before I started my trip I hit horrible traffic in Austin, Texas. A tank flipped and spilled hundreds of gallons of fuel leaving only one lane open to the drivers on I-35 North. Therefore I missed my flight and I had to catch a later flight. I was so mad, "Eff you Austin traffic!" I landed at La Guardia airport at 7 p.m. I waited for a few minutes for my best friend/sorority sister Melina to pick me up. I randomly took my camcorder out and started recording, a few seconds later I see a girl pass by on the city bus waving her hand and with a big smile. It was Melina! I was so happy to see her after a whole year without seeing her.

I'M IN NEW YORK B****!

Melina had everything planned out, so our first stop was a car rental place. We were excited to rent a car, we were already thinking about what type of car we wanted. But after trying they denied both of us a car rental. We were disappointed but we decided that there was no other way but to travel around NY by bus or train. We ride a bus back to the airport to then take a bus to Brooklyn. After I did some research on my phone, we found out that taking a taxi would be faster, although it was not as cheap. We didn't have time to waste, after all we only had the weekend to spend time with our sisters. I acted like such a tourist, I recorded part of the ride in the taxi because I never rode in a NY cab.

When we get to Brooklyn we were so hungry. I was ready to get something to eat, but I was more excited to see my sisters, especially the ones from Cali. (Melina and I came up with a plan to surprise my friend Araceli. I told Araceli that I wasn't going to the East Coast for founders.) When I got there I expected to surprise Araceli, but she wasn't there yet. The sisters and I stayed talking about everything, you know getting to know each other. Then while I was recording a few of our funny conversations, the Cali sisters walk in and I yell to Araceli, "WHAT? CALI'S IN THE HOUSE!" She turns around surprised, as I expected, her face was unforgettable! She was mad at me and all the sisters that were in on it.

"WE ROLL DEEP!"

We settle down and then I ask everyone, "Where can I get some good food? I don't want any Mexican food though, I'm tired of that!" They told me about a Chinese place down the street so I get ready to leave and a few other sisters join. As we walk to the restaurant one of the sisters mentioned that we were in "Bed-Stuy," home of the famous rapper Notorious BIG. I was so excited to learn that, and of course I recorded her saying that (I'm such a tourist!). When we come back we notice the room was filled with a lot of sorority sisters from across the nation. Because of the number of people in the room, it was getting so hot and Melina, Araceli and I decide to chill outside and talk about our day (typical lol). We go back inside and after spending hours talking with my sorority sisters Melina and I decided it was time to go, it was mad late. It took two and half hours to finally get to the Bronx by subway and bus(and again I recorded our trip, don't judge!)

Here's a video to summarize my experience this weekend. "Empire State of Mind" by Jay-Z and Alicia Keys

We woke up the next morning and headed towards Manhattan to have breakfast with our sorority sisters form Cali. We ended just eating hot dogs and walking around Manhattan for 5 hours trying to find a place that would rent us a car. We were exhausted!

After walking and traveling all day I finally called my cousin who worked in Newark and got to borrow his daughter's/my cousin's car. The catch was that we had to drive to PA to get it. The two hour drive didn't seem long but once we got to Allentown I gave a quick hug to my cousin and left I felt bad, she's so nice, I still can't believe she let me borrow 'Kermit'. We had to hurry the trip ahead was going to take six hours and it was 7 p.m.!

FREE DUNKIN' DONUTS?!

Melina and I drive back to the Bronx to grab our bags for Boston, thank God there wasn't any traffic. Then from there we went straight to Mass. About two hours pass and we're in Conn. we decide to take a break and we stop at a Dunkin Donuts. It was about 10 or 11 p.m. and I was surprised to see the only employee working at the place was happy, she hooked us up with a dozen donuts. I would have been cranky, it was mad late! Anyways she was super nice the guy in front of us was kinda weird, of course I didn't really pay much attention to his comments, but Melina did (she's a friendly person).

WEIRD TRIP

We continue our journey to Mass. and on the way we had the weirdest conversations. I remember one of them was about the different meanings of "motherfucker" in a sentence. We also got to share a lot about our different taste in music. One genre we did agree on was dance/techno/house music. We truly are sisters at heart!

WE FINALLY GET TO OUR DESTINATION!

We got to the hotel at around 2 a.m. and we go see our cali-tre Araceli in her room with the other awesome cali sisters. I thought it was great seeing them especially Araceli I have known her for a year and we finally got to meet face to face and hang out--it was a great experience! When I was talking to the cali sisters Melina just knocks out on the floor with pillows for a few minutes--TIRED! I wanted to do the same but I didn't want to miss a moment. I knew from the beginning it was a #nosleep weekend. After about an hour or so Melina and I head to our hotel room with my chapter sisters (TX sisters). I was excited to see my tre Janeth and G-force the deuce.

LET'S BE UNICORNS!!!!

The next day was my last day in the East Coast, it was bitter sweet. Melina and I woke up late (well deserved I should say) and got brunch at a fancy place at the mall and we went shopping. The weather was 'iight', cloudy skies but the breeze/cold felt so good compared to the humid hot air in TX. One of the last stores we hit up was a Halloween store. Now I'm not a big fan of Halloween, but I mean when was I going to see my NY sorority sister and window shop with her again? So we go in and look at all the weird stuff and we come across these UNICORN costumes! We quickly grabbed one of the hats and tried it on. The sign said $3.99, and we were like "Fuck yeah let's buy these and go into the hotel with them on!" We were having too much fun. But hey, who's gonna judge?! When we get to the counter the guy goes,"-__- $35.99." SAY WHAT?! "Sign said $3.99 bro!" We walked one lady to the spot where we got them from and the lady says it was for something else. Clearly there was a whole bunch of them in the same spot. We were bummed out! "Fuck those motherfuckers!"

ENDING THE DAY

Well we came back, did some homework and I ended up falling asleep while we were watching "The House Bunny." I wake up and I felt so bummed out because I knew that we had to leave soon, my plane left at 6 a.m....AT LA GUARDIA! When I read all the tweets the sisters were posting I knew that I couldn't miss out on the hotel party, I wanted to end my trip with a "motha' fuckin' bang!" When I get there I took a couple of pictures with my sisters and then danced for about a half hour. It was 1 a.m and Melina and I had to leave back to NY.

THE HARDEST GOOD-BYE!

We started to say good-bye to everyone, but saying good-bye to my cali-tre Araceli was tough. I mean I just met her, we just met her, and we wanted to hang out more. But we live in 3 different coasts EAST, WEST and SOUTH. We were miles away and we were not going to all be together until God knows when! That's true sisterhood right there. I would have never thought I would have a close bond with people I didn't meet face to face. Anyways we had a group hug and we were trying so hard not to cry. We kept telling each other, "Don't cry cuz then I'll start to cry!"

LONG STORY SHORT

I actually wanted to write a short blog about my weekend but as you can see it was impossible. It was a great weekend, I don't ever want to forget about it. I miss my sisters a lot even the ones I didn't mention, there's just so many! lol If you're an hermana reading this, I love you all and I hope I get to hang out/meet with you guys in the future.
